Gifted and Talented Education

Characteristics of a G/T child include: unusually large vocabulary, fast learner, creative and curious, asks penetrating questions, remembers information easily, reads above grade level, expresses ideas clearly, and has a longer than normal attention span.

Parents and/or teachers may recommend students for this program. Parents, teachers, and students recommended to the program are asked to complete questionnaires. The SAGES (Screening Assessment for Gifted Elementary Students) is also administered. A committee of at least two teachers and the principal then review all of the information to determine whether or not the program is appropriate for the students recommended.

Teachers differentiate for students in the regular classroom and assign challenging work and projects that require using higher level thinking skills throughout the year.

“CHALLENGE” Groups meet on Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. and periodically interact with G/T students from neighboring small schools.
