The primary goal of the Sweet Home Parent and Teacher Organization (P.T.O.) is to support the school and its students. Bake sales, fundraisers, and dues provide the funds needed to offer assistance for special projects and supplies. In the past, the P.T.O. has purchased items such as bleachers, a sun shade and other equipment for the school. It has also sponsored dances for the students, organized parties to celebrate attaining Exemplary Status and has paid for students to attend field trips.
By far, the largest contribution by the P.T.O. is the annual Chili Supper. Normally held the last Saturday evening in January, Chili Supper activities include the meal, an auction, a silent auction, and games for the whole family. The major portion of the funds raised are allocated to the scholarship program created by the P.T.O. After the Chili Supper, a meeting is held to determine the amount of money to be contributed to each student’s account based on the profit from the fundraiser. In order to qualify for the scholarship, any student who has graduated from Sweet Home School and then goes on to graduate high school must send a graduation invitation to the school. At that time, the student will be given a check for the portion of the money that has accumulated in his/her account.
